If there is no DHCP server available or you are not using a static IP address an LLA configuration should be applied.

NIC Configuration on Linux - Ubuntu 18.04


On the top right menu click on the networking symbol, select wired connected then click on Wired settings. Finally press the settings button and



Go to the IPv4 Settings’ tab and select under Method Link-local Only


Click on apply and then close

 


NIC Configuration on Windows 10


Windows will automatically set an LLA IP Address if its fails to obtain an IP Address from the DHCP server.
